This course covers the fundamentals of sailing.
At the end of the course you will be able to carry out basic sailing manoeuvres.

Courses start every day. We are open 7 days a week.

 

Format

You will train on our Sonata 26 foot yacht.
We limit the boat’s complement to four students. The course consists of four three hour
practical sailing lessons.

  • Learn how to use of all the safety equipment on board
  • Sail to sheltered locations
  • Heave to
  • Understand navigation marks
  • Sail upwind and tack
  • Sail downwind and gybe
  • Sail around a triangular course
  • Read telltails
  • Understand nautical terminology
  • Understand the rigging on the yacht
  • Know which vessels have right of way
  • Steer the yacht
  • Determine wind direction
  • Get the yacht underway
  • Trim the sails and understand the points of sailing
  • Determine tide direction
  • Tie figure eight and bowline knots and know the use of each.
